This is Jim,He is an air force veteran from WWII. I met Jim in the Cabin gift shop behind the Valley Forge Chapel. We talked about the military with some of Jim's friends over coffee. Jim is a fun guy who likes to stir things up every now and then.
I love that tinkly smile in his eyes! The black and white helps put the accent on him; I suspect that the background would have attracted more attention in colour.
This one was difficult to shoot. Indoors, low light. I had to use off camera flash just to get him sharp. It was just too cold to find anyone outside, I hope it warms up tomorrow!
I love the fact that you are not only taking really interesting portraits, but that you are talking to these people and finding out about their stories. Hope to see some women in your line up too :-)
Sorry Kook! (fixed)I didn't realize how hard it is to keep up with all of the commenting. Eury, I just go out in the morning and see who I run into who will let me photograph them. I expect to run into some women also.
Cool stuff you're doing here. I like meeting random people and they seem to like meeting me. It never ceases to amaze me what total strangers will tell me! Good for you getting their photos too, its a good idea for a coffee table book ya know?
Another great pic with loads of detail..... I'm wondering if selectively blurring the background, since this is a higher contrast image than your other ones, might make the background recede a bit more and focus even more attention on the details of Jim's face.
I'm jealous of your ability to strike up conversation; you make this look easy. I've been wishing to try something like this myself (which is why I picked Smiles as my theme) but so far I've been taking only tentative steps in teh direction of stranger interaction.
Maybe if I see more of these I'll pick up my courage to try it too.. :)

His eyes look like they've seen so many things. And yet he's smiling. Well done.
