This is Uko. Uko is earning a little extra money for his family working for a tax preparation company. His job consists of dressing in a Statue of Liberty costume and waving at passing cars in the freezing cold. I am much more grateful for my job today.

  1. On a technical note, great job lightening hte shadows of the face here. Is it just fill flash or did you have to use post too? I think the harsh light really adds to this image.

  2. Your collection of portraits is really amazing! I'm amazed at your bravery for interacting with complete strangers to get these shots. It's definitely something I wouldn't desire to do. You're getting a very beautiful collection of portraits that develop into a great story. Well done! This guy makes me appreciate my job a little more as well, definitely not a job I'd want. I agree with mk, that the harsh light helps communicate the harsh conditions he's enduring to make an extra buck.

  3. No flash on this shot, just available light. I lightened the shadows on his face and darkened the highlight on his liberty cap right above the shadow on his face in photo shop. I also dodged his iris and made just one catch light in his eyes.

  4. I like how the shadow on his face and the blues of his costume enhance the cold and hardship of his job.

  5. I'm getting more and more impressed with your faces, and the stories that go with them.
To see them in full view is just breathtaking, I hope everyone takes a few seconds to do so.
Uko's face is full of character and hardship, but he also looks a gutsy sort of guy who would work his tail off for his family.
    Amazing, just amazing.

  6. Your post-processing of your portraits are really well done. I can't imagine having to do such a crappy job to make some bucks.. makes us really appreciate what we already have.
